The Perth Mint Platinum Tiger coin is issued by the Perth Mint as part of the Lunar series and is one of two platinum coins that they issue currently. The other coin available is the platinum Kangaroo coin. The Lunar Tiger coin is available in gold, silver and platinum. The coin series commemorates the Chinese lunar calendar, and a new animal features on the front of the coin each year, with 12 coins available per series. The Lunar series was initially only available in gold and silver, but due to its popularity was recently also introduced in platinum as well.
Each coin features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth on the front, with the coin's purity, weight, and face value located at the bottom. These coins have a face value of $100AUD. The reverse features an image of a Tiger standing on top of a rock.
The Perth Mint produces a number of famous coins, including the Kangaroo coin in gold and silver, and the Koala and Kookaburra coins, which are available in silver only. The Perth Mint also produces gold and silver bars available to investors.
