Common Date Greek 20 Drachma Gold Bullion Coin.
20 Drachma Face Value.
These coins feature the image of King George I, the then reigning Greek King, whose face features on the coin from 1863-1913. The reverse side of the coin features the Greek coat of arms.
The first release of thse coins was in 1832, at the time when Greece became independant of the Ottoman Empire. These coins contain 900 fine gold bullion, which was the contemporaneous standard for gold coinage by governments.
Many other European countries also launched their own gold coins. These include the French Napoleon and Rooster Coins, the Italian Lira coin, and the Dutch Guilder.
Each 20 Drachma contains 4.5 grams of gold, with the total weight of the coin at 5.8 grams.
