Leopold II continued this tradition, issuing gold Franc coins from 1869 - 1909. Albert I, who was Leopold II's successor, only issued these coins for one year, in 1914. One unique features of the 1914 issue coins is that they were issued in two different languages, Flemish and French, with half issued in each language. The reverse side of each coin features two olive branches, with the coin's legal tender value and year of minting located in the middle. Many other European countries also launched their own gold coins. These include the Swiss Vreneli, the Italian Lira coin, and the Dutch Guilder.
