Though the coin varies slightly, the design is similar on all years. Each coin features the leader's portrait on the front with the year of minting at the bottom. The reverse features the Italian coat of arms encircled by a wreath. These coins were minted at mints across italy, including those in Roma, Milan and Genoa.
Many other European countries also launched their own gold coins, also with a weight of 5.8 grams. These include the Belgian Francs, Swiss Vreneli Coin, and the Dutch Guilder.
